Destination Writing

Destination Writing is a type of object writing used by Andrea Stolpe and explored in her book, Popular Lyric Writing: 10 Steps to Effective Storytelling. In Andrea’s own words:

“Destination writing is sense-bound free writing directed at a place, a person, or a time instead of an object.”

This is only a slight change from object writing, as Pat Pattison clearly shows in his book Writing Better Lyrics that object writing can also be directed at a place. In Popular Lyric Writing, though, Stolpe uses destination writing as a launching point for discussing several unique songwriting techniques that are entirely her own.
